RELIEF FROM SEX OFFENDER REGISTRATION

Juveniles convicted of class A felonies that occurred after the age of 15 can be relieved from sex offender registration 60 months after release from confinement.

 

Juveniles convicted of any other sex offense can be relieved from sex offender registration 24 months after release from confinement. 

 

The court must find that the juvenile has been rehabilitated by a preponderance of the evidence, to have a petition for relief from registration granted, RCW 9A.44.143.

Adults convicted of a sex offense must wait either ten or fifteen years before petitioning for relief from sex offender registration.  For an adult convicted of a sex offense, the Judge must find by clear and convincing evidence that the petitioner is sufficiently rehabilitated to allow removal from the central registry of sex and kidnapping offenders.  RCW 9A.44.142.
